Staying Active this Holiday Season

Whenever the holidays come around it gets really easy to avoid exercise in favor of additional sleep and good food. It’s great to take these kinds of breaks for ourselves, but it’s also important to do what we can to stay active and doing so is actually a lot easier than it sounds. Today, we’re going to take a look at some easy ways to stay active during the holiday season and even from the comfort of your own home.

Yoga

Don’t let yoga deceive you. While yoga is very beneficial for the body to increase flexibility and helping to relax muscles and mind, it also can double as a good workout with varying intensity. Yoga works on several muscle groups and is typically low impact so individuals with movement difficulty can do yoga with little to know problem. Yoga with Adriene on Youtube provides several routines for those of you with tight schedules, different needs, or those who want more of a challenge.

Calisthenics

Calisthenics is the technical term for body-weight workouts that sometimes uses minimal equipment. For those who don’t have a home gym or a lot of equipment can opt for this for home workouts that come in a variety of difficulties as well as routines. Darebee is a great place to find workout routines for calisthenics that provide detailed descriptions within each routine as well as timing and repetition range for those looking to add some difficulty to their workout routine. Different muscle groups and cardio routines exist here too so take a look to find what you need.

Light Equipment

For those of you who like something a bit faster paced or just a bit more exciting, there’s some great cost effective equipment to get a fun work out in. The main staples in this section are jump ropes and hula hoops. Yes you heard me right, hula hoops. Both of these implements are relatively cheap and work the whole body, provide cardio, and can actually be pretty fun to do. Use these over 20 minute workout and you will definitely feel the burn everywhere. Weighted jump ropes even exist for those looking to bulk up with jump rope workouts but can also tend to be a bit more expensive and difficult to use.

So those are some quick to start activities that are very simple to start with plenty of room for progression. Remember that the important part of physical activity is to be consistent with your routines, even if it’s simple. If you’re looking for more ways to stay active or are wondering what might best suit your lifestyle then feel free to ask whenever you’re at the office! That’s it for this week, Happy Holidays!
