After a temporary hiatus, we’ll be resuming our blog posts on a more bi-weekly basis. Today we’ll be taking a special look into Major League Rugby (MLR) with a special focus on our local team, the San Diego Legion, whom we are partnered with.

Rugby itself is a sport with a long history, but its humble start in North America's Major League sports has been much more recent. Major League Rugby was founded in North America in 2018 with seven teams under its banner, the San Diego Legion being one of them. Since then, the league has expanded to 12 teams across the U.S. and Canada composed of players from all over the world.

The Legion itself gets its strength from a powerful group of elite athletes who come from various countries and backgrounds. Chris Robshaw was captain of England’s national Rugby team and is the second most capped England captain of all time. Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias played for Argentina’s national team and played in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and again for the 2017 Rugby Championship. South African legends Bjorn Basson and Cecil Afrika Still are two of the most celebrated athletes to ever play the game. curious about the diversity of the Legion? You can keep reading here.

As a sports chiropractor for the Legion, Dr. Raines will spend time interacting with the players over at the Legion HQ to assess the needs of the team and help them perform at their absolute best. Like all sports, musculoskeletal injuries and wear are common for these high caliber athletes which chiropractors are specially equipped to deal with as well as improving the efficiency at which the body can operate. This unique position allows him to serve as an advocate for these athletes and as a liaison between the team and the team’s performance director. This also means that if you’re stopping in for an appointment at the office, you may catch a glimpse of a player from the Legion! They’re ordinary people, like me and you, with a lot of heart and passion for their sport.
